The Nervous System in Reptiles

Reptiles are the next order of complexity from amphibians.

They are the first organisms with truly external ears, with a cavity above the eardrum for sounds to entire via the air. Crocodilians have especially complex sensory systems, with specialized eyes for dark, murky conditions, a strong sense of smell, and pits along their face and jawline that detect various chemical and tactile stimuli.

These highly developed, specialized organs allow crocodilians to efficiently gain information about their environment and more successfully hunt both water- and land-based prey.
